Rapper Lil Jon confirms son is dead after police recovered a body from a pond near Milton, a suburban community north of Atlanta, Georgia. The rapper and record producer shared the devastating news on Friday, confirming that the deceased was his 27-year-old son, Nathan Smith.
The confirmation came through a joint statement released by Lil Jon and Nathan’s mother, Nicole Smith, following days of uncertainty and an extensive search effort.
“I am completely heartbroken by the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith,” the statement read. “His mother and I are devastated beyond words.”

Authorities reported that Nathan Smith was last seen early Tuesday morning after leaving his home in Milton under what police described as “unusual circumstances.” A missing person alert shared on social media noted that he left on foot without his phone and may have been disoriented at the time.
After several days of searching, divers from the Cherokee County Fire Department discovered a body in a nearby pond shortly before noon on Friday. Law enforcement officials said the body is believed to be Nathan Smith, though final identification and cause of death are pending confirmation from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police have stated that there are currently no signs of foul play. However, the investigation remains open and active until official findings are completed.
Lil Jon Pays Tribute to His Son
In an emotional tribute, Lil Jon described Nathan as an exceptionally gifted and compassionate individual. Known professionally as DJ Young Slade, Nathan was a producer, artist, and audio engineer who had built a promising career in music. He was also a graduate of New York University.
“Nathan was one of the kindest people you could ever meet,” Lil Jon said. “He was thoughtful, polite, passionate, and deeply caring. He loved his family and friends with his whole heart.”
The rapper also expressed gratitude to the Milton Police Department, first responders, and community members who assisted in the search, as well as those who offered prayers and support during the difficult days leading up to the discovery.
