Justin Bieber Grammy performance made headlines at the 2026 Grammy Awards—and not because he planned to. Making his return to the Grammys stage after a four-year break on February 1, Bieber delivered a performance that quickly went viral for its raw, stripped-down approach, sparking widespread conversation across social media platforms.
A Red Carpet Appearance Before a Bold Stage Choice
Earlier in the evening, Bieber appeared on the red carpet with his wife, Hailey Bieber, presenting a polished and traditional look. However, when it was time to perform, the Grammy-winning artist surprised audiences by stepping on stage wearing only custom satin boxers from his fashion brand, SKYLRK. The minimalist outfit revealed his tattoos and abs, including one tattoo believed to be dedicated to Hailey.

Outfit Decision Made at the Last Minute
According to Grammys executive producer Ben Winston, Bieber’s outfit was not pre-planned. Speaking on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Winston explained that the singer likely made the decision moments before walking on stage.
“I don’t think he decided until just before he went out,” Winston said, adding that Bieber’s natural confidence and effortless style played a major role in pulling off the unexpected look.
A Laid-Back Approach to Rehearsals
Winston also highlighted Bieber’s relaxed attitude toward rehearsals. When discussing creative planning, Winston recalled Bieber’s simple response: “I’m just going to go on stage and sing.”
During rehearsals for his performance of “Yukon,” Bieber reportedly used only 15 minutes of a scheduled 90-minute rehearsal. Winston described the moment as impressive, noting that Bieber checked in briefly before confidently stepping away.
“At seven minutes in, Justin asked us if we were satisfied. When we said yes, he replied, ‘Okay, fantastic—see you Sunday,’” Winston shared. Bieber only rehearsed again at Winston’s request to ensure the camera crew was fully prepared.
A Comeback Fueled by Creative Freedom
Winston revealed that he strongly wanted Bieber to perform at the Grammys due to how highly he regarded Bieber’s new album, Swag. Reflecting on the comeback performance, Winston said Bieber stayed completely true to himself.
“He did exactly what he wanted. It was entirely his vision and unlike anything we’ve seen from him before,” Winston said.
